Phases of the Sun
for three guitars and keyboard
The pieces now titled Awakening, from a collection I now call Phases of the Sun, have resisted programmatic description. I think they have something to do with the state of fleeting awareness or wakefulness that may be felt during some kind of physical or emotional shift. The shift can be internal, but sometimes the outside world has a way of rousing us from ourselves. These are songs without words written in a straightforward (albeit microtonal/sixth-tone, as always for me) melodic and harmonic language, in ABA form.
